a: Antibiotic stock solutions with water as solvent should be sterilized by filtration through a 0.22μm filter. Antibiotic solutions with ethanol as solvent do not need to be sterilized. All antibiotic solutions should be stored in light-proof containers.
b: Magnesium ions are an antagonist of tetracycline. Screening for tetracycline-resistant bacteria should use a culture medium that does not contain magnesium salts (such as LB culture medium).
